The laser tripwire security system module
with siren + AC adapter + 2x 5v lasers
This listing is for a fully assembled and tested laser security system module with siren, 2x 5v lasers & a 9VDC AC wall adapter. The sensor is extremely sensitive, so any breach of the laser will activate the alarm. It is extremely easy to use, and the above video offers a full demonstration. We also offer these in kit form for a few dollars less, so make sure to check out our store! The shipping costs pay for AIR shipping from Ontario.
Operation:
The operation is very simple. Plug the unit into the wall via the AC adapter. The lasers that are provided do not come with a power source, but they require 5v to operate. They are rated for 5mW at 5v. You'll have to make your own power source. I suggest using a 9v battery, and a 7805 5v regulator IC. When you've plugged in your laser security system, there is an on off switch that needs to be switched on to apply power. Once you've turned the device on, line up your laser from across the room so that is pointing directly on the LDR (Light dependant Resistor) on the main board. The board has four mounting holes. While this set does not come with mounting hardware, you can easily mount this unit to a wall or project box. Once the laser is lined up, carefully press the "SEL" button on the main board. The second you press this button, the device begins scanning for a change in light. Even the slightest breach of the laser tripwire will activate the alarm. Keep this unit well hidden. The alarm is extremely loud at 9v. Once the alarm has been triggered, press the "SEL" button again for a split second, and let go. Once you let go, the device will reset. From here, make sure that the laser is lined up, and press the "SEL" button again to start scanning once again. A full demonstration can be seen in the above video!
I don't need a laser?
That's right! You don't have to use a laser if you don't want to. As I mentioned above, this unit reacts to fast changes in light. If you place this in an area where someone would walk by and cast a shadow on the LDR, this will trigger the alarm. If a laser is pointed at the LDR and someone casts a shadow, that will not cause a trigger. If there is a laser pointed at the LDR, only a breach in the laser will activate the alarm. Try it out! If you want to test this device, but you don't want the alarm to keep going off in your tests, simply disconnect one of the siren wires from the on board siren terminal block.
Mounting:
The board has four holes for mounting; one in each corner. No mounting hardware is included. The siren has two mounting holes, but comes with no mounting hardware. The siren also has a double sided tape strip on the back of the unit. If you want, you can strip off the protective layer, and simply press the unit against the wall, or a project box. It will stick like a charm =)
